With the works of “For Six minutes of Pleasure”, Tamar Halpern dives into the imagery of modernist abstraction in search of inspiration and meanings to amplify, disassemble and recompose on canvas.

The New York artist has created a cycle of painted collages using stretches of canvas cut into individual paintings, concluding an intuitive process of addition, accumulation and manipulation of images.

Canon PowerShot G10 / G11: From Snapshots to Great Shots

Jeff Carlson’s latest book Canon PowerShot G10 / G11: From Snapshots to Great Shots has just been released and is available from Amazon or Peachpit Press right now. Jeff’s books contains three of my favorite G10 landscape images which were chosen from the hundreds submitted to Peachpit’s Flickr group created just for this book. The first person to buy the book and find my three images gets a free copy of my new photo book Hill Country Landscapes.

Merry Christmas

Since this is (probably) my last post of the week I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas. Celebrate the joy of our Lord and Saviour’s birth with family and friends and know that we are all blessed with His eternal Grace. And for my friends in New York, Chag Urim Sameach!

The Long Way Home

Here’s a shot I took a few months back during a hike at the Hill Country State Natural Area near Bandera, Texas. This secluded little state park boasts about 40 miles of hiking and horse trails winding up and down grassy valleys, crossing spring-fed streams, and climbing (very) steep limestone hills.

It’s also one of most beautiful outback areas of the state and offers wonderful vistas to photograph for those adventurous enough to hike up the rough limestone trails. It’s one of those spots that nature lovers prize the most; secluded, quiet and beautiful.

The exposure was taken at 24mm, f/11 for 1/60th of a second at ISO 100 using a Singh-Ray warming polarizer. All post capture processing was done in Adobe’s Lightroom 3 Beta. Urban Survival Pack is a minimalist design created by Zealand-based designer Ryan Romanes. The task was to create and design a considered solution to the contributing factors of urban poverty. The solution came in the form of an Urban Survival Pack for children, to be placed in schools for use as an instructional device by teachers. Its tactility and playful shape invites the users to engage with the device while learning through play.
